Morpheus: A Convertible Rug Tile Revolution

Ingrid Kulper's Innovative Design Wins Silver A' Design Award

Inspired by the concept of creating new designs by dividing a pattern into four equal parts and rotating them, Kulper developed Morpheus. This unique rug tile is not only removable but can also be easily turned in different directions, offering countless possibilities for creating new patterns.

Morpheus stands out from other designs due to its unique properties. The rug tiles are hand-tufted in natural fibers of wool and bamboo. They can form different patterns depending on how they are placed next to each other. The tiles are equipped with an anti-slip surface, making them easy to replace or change, and can cover large or small areas with ease.

The realization of Morpheus involved careful consideration of the tiles' ability to stay in place without being permanently fixed. The designer also wanted to ensure that the pattern and shape could be easily changed by the end user. The materials used for the hand-tufted tiles are wool and bamboo fiber, contributing to the perception of having many rugs in one.

Each tile of Morpheus measures 700mm x 700mm with a pile height of 12mm. The tiles are delivered in stacks, facilitating transportation. The anti-slip layer attached to each tile ensures they stay in place, making them ideal for both public settings and private homes.

The design process of Morpheus started in July 2017 in Sweden and was completed in February 2018. The main challenge was to find a reliable and practical anti-slip lining to be attached to each rug tile. After trying out many different materials, the perfect solution was found, resulting in a design that is as practical as it is aesthetically pleasing.

With its innovative design and practical application, Morpheus has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. Morpheus, with its unique properties and aesthetic appeal, truly embodies these qualities.
