Jose Cuervo Lounge

A Unique Hospitality Suite Inspired by Wooden Ships and Tennis

This design is inspired by the climate context; the ocean's breeze, high temperature, and direct exposure to sun rays. Steretomy made out of thin slices of wood, same as the canvas ceiling with space between its stretches, offers no resistance to the wind, making it fresh even in the middle of the day.

The Jose Cuervo Lounge, designed by Mariano Badaracco and Juan Chavez, is a remarkable hospitality suite that combines elements of wooden ships and tennis. The designers drew inspiration from the old ways of building a wooden ship, as well as the bounce of a tennis ball during a game. The result is a unique and functional space that caters to the needs of VIP guests.

One of the standout features of the Jose Cuervo Lounge is its consideration of the climate context. Located in Acapulco, where strong winds from the sea and hot temperatures are common, the design takes these factors into account. The structure is made of steel, with main poles that provide better grip and resistance. The use of thin slices of MDF for the walls and a canvas ceiling with space between the stretches allows for minimal wind resistance. As a result, the space remains fresh even in the middle of the day.

The design specifications of the Jose Cuervo Lounge are impressive. It measures 7 meters in width by 11.50 meters in length, with a height of 2.44 meters for the body and an additional 60 square meters for the ceiling. The floor is divided in a way that allows for multiple configurations in the future, making it versatile for other events. The walls also modulate, measuring 3 meters in length by 2.44 meters in height.

Operated during the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis, the Jose Cuervo Lounge serves as a commercial area for the tournament's VIP guests. It offers signature drinks from the Jose Cuervo family and high-end food from a renowned restaurant. The stand is transparent from the outside, allowing people to catch a glimpse of the celebrities inside.

The design team faced several challenges in creating the Jose Cuervo Lounge. The most significant hurdle was working within a limited budget of $17,000. Despite this constraint, they managed to create a structure that is transportable, reusable, and allows for multiple configurations. The result is a stunning and functional hospitality suite that provides a unique experience for its guests.

The Jose Cuervo Lounge was recognized for its excellence in design, winning the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Jose Cuervo Lounge stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its guests.
