The project, which was completed in September 2020, is a 950m2 Salles Center that draws inspiration from its unique location. The design incorporates the minimal lines of the hillside roof, reminiscent of the black roof tiles, white gables, and smooth landscapes of Jiangnan, thereby retaining the romance of the area.
Tianwen Sun, who was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022 for this project, has managed to find a balance between modern and traditional romanticism. The design uses light and shadow to find the black and white balance, and the direction of the materials to give people a sense of direction and space. The result is a design with implicit details that is both familiar and modern.
The main challenge of the project was to create a balance between traditional and modern design language. The goal was to create a space that felt familiar in a modern time. This was achieved by drawing on the traditional romanticism of the freehand ink painting style of Jiangnan and incorporating it into a modern design.
The Ningbo Zhonghai project is a testament to the ability of designers to incorporate traditional elements into modern designs. It is a shining example of how design can bridge the gap between the old and the new, creating spaces that are both familiar and innovative.
The project was completed by Tianwen Sun and his design team at the Shanghai Hip-pop Architectural Decoration Design co. Ltd. The design was awarded the Silver A' Design Award, which is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
