Xtreat: A Sculptural Lounge Chair with Perfect Comfort

A Unique Blend of Artistry and Ergonomics

What sets Xtreat apart from other lounge chairs is its use of natural materials and meticulous handwork. The hollow backrest not only adds aesthetic value but also enhances ergonomics and comfort. The production process of Xtreat involved the use of conventional materials and manual labor. The shell case was crafted from laminated Iroko wood, while different density foams were strategically employed for the seating to ensure optimal comfort. The seating upholstery features high-quality cow leather, and the legs are made of laser-cut steel.

With dimensions of 650mm in width, 700mm in depth, and 1100mm in height, Xtreat is designed to accommodate various body types while providing the most comfortable seating experience.

Xtreat is more than just a piece of furniture; it is an experience. By simply sitting on this easy chair, users can flex their legs and immerse themselves in the positive effect of owning a handcrafted, sculptural masterpiece.

The Xtreat lounge chair was completed in May 2017 in Izmir and has yet to be exhibited. The design process involved extensive research to ensure universal comfort for users of different body types. The wooden shell, laminated with multiple layers, was meticulously shaped by hand machines. The seating, consisting of different density sponges, was formed through manual labor. The cow leather upholstery was stitched using machines and then upholstered by hand.

One of the main challenges in creating Xtreat was the reliance on complete manual labor for production. This necessitated a detailed one-on-one workshop process, with months of collaboration between the design team and the skilled craftspeople.

Combining the fluidity of wind-carved canyons with the mathematical precision of a spider's web, Xtreat is a testament to the harmonious blend of natural forms and mathematical principles. This simple elegance creates a visually pleasing furniture piece that adds a touch of sophistication to any space.
