Shanghai New Hongqiao Hyatt Place Hotel: A Blend of Elegance and Modernism

Bringing the Style of Jiang Zhe Culture into the Heart of Shanghai

The famous Chinese song Nightlife in Shanghai presents the complex and real life. The course of civilization moves forward with entangling happiness and sorrows of life. The deepest impression on the old Shanghai is its elegance in the air and people’s preservation of sober and comfort in turbulent days.

The Shanghai New Hongqiao Hyatt Place Hotel, designed by Honglei Liu, is a testament to the exalted tradition of Shanghai's upper-class society. With its elegant and modern feel, this hotel seamlessly blends modernism and retroism, creating a unique sensory experience for its guests.

The design of the hotel is inspired by the elegance and charm of old Shanghai. The mix of dark copper, wood, light-colored cotton, and white cortex fabric brings a sense of sophistication and charm to the space. Scattered art paintings, white ceramic artworks, and vibrant flowers add to the solemn dignity and nobility of old Shanghai.

The lobby, with its philosophy of "less is more," features soft and delicate lighting. The combination of dark wood, gray cotton, and grain marble on the wall structure creates a simple and serene atmosphere. The vertical distribution of stripes resembles a flowing water curtain, inviting guests into the upcoming story between them and the hotel.

In the interweave and resonance of modernism and retro elegance, the reception lobby showcases the tolerance and pattern of flowing times. The tall and straight outlines, along with large areas of mosaic stone parquet, create an elegant background space. The orange-red carpet re-expresses the bustling city scenery along the Huangpu River in an artistic way, while the thriving tree on the beige cotton wall at the waiting area creates a warm and natural scene.

The Shanghai New Hongqiao Hyatt Place Hotel is not just a place to stay; it is an experience that immerses guests in the rich history and prosperity of Shanghai. With its unique blend of elegance and modernism, this hotel offers a new feeling of personal luxury and allows guests to dream of Shanghai's vibrant future.

The project, which started in April 2013 and finished in January 2018, is a testament to the dedication and creativity of the design team. Led by Honglei Liu, with the participation of Yuxin Yang and Xiaomei Liang, the team overcame numerous challenges to create a harmonious and unique space.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Shanghai New Hongqiao Hyatt Place Hotel truly contributes to the improvement of quality of life, making the world a better place.
