Reviving Eastern Charm: The Dongya Model House by Shenen Design

Blending Ancient Principles with Modern Urban Design

The Dongya Model House, aptly named after the eastern charm of Zhengzhou, China's ancient capital, is a testament to the city's over 2000 years of history. The city, once the cradle of the Xia dynasty, has gradually faded into obscurity. Shenen Design's project seeks to rekindle the city's charm by creating a serene, culture-infused living environment that hints at a city on the brink of resurgence.

What sets the Dongya Model House apart is its unique balance. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Chinese principle of Yin and Yang, the design team has focused on recreating a calming natural environment within a modern urban setting. This harmony is reflected in every aspect of the design, from the color choices to the material selection, each element thoughtfully chosen to complete the visual unity.

The design team, led by Creative Director Guomin Shen and Lead Designer Chuanhai Song, embarked on this project in January 2018. Over the course of eight months, they transformed their vision into reality in Zhengzhou, China. The result is a model house that beautifully blends the past and the present, offering a unique balance and aesthetic pleasure.

The Dongya Model House has been recognized for its innovative design and remarkable execution. In 2020, it was awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award. This prestigious accolade is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that exhibit outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to the design's strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, and ability to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
