Revolutionizing Car Showrooms: The Bosheng Design

Sun Chang'an's Artistic Vision Transforms Automobile Display

Renowned designer Sun Chang'an has redefined the concept of car showrooms with his innovative design for Bosheng. Drawing inspiration from European art and architecture, Chang'an has created a space that marries function and artistry, offering a unique car viewing experience.

Sun Chang'an's design for Bosheng is a testament to his belief that the display of automobiles should not be restricted to mundane environments. Instead, he envisions cars being showcased in an elegant setting, brimming with artistic ambiance. The design emphasizes the display function of the automobile, employing arc surface modeling for the overall layout. The transformation from display area to management office space is seamless, with the rich texture of the materials used contrasting beautifully with the quality of glass. The result is a simple, elegant space that strikes an effective balance between detail and the whole.

The Bosheng showroom, located in Jiangbei District, Chongqing, covers an area of 1150 square meters. The building stands 3.8 meters high, with a side entrance space of 85 square meters and a height of 10 meters. The entire decoration design was completed in 25 days, with construction finished in 65 days. The materials used include glasses and valpaint for the walls, and plaster plate surfaced with water-repellent paper for the ceiling. Some areas also feature latex paint made of acrylic board.

The design process involved the construction of three large conical shapes on the ceiling above the side entrance. Each module was divided into three different size circles for vertical connection, then hoisted onto the ceiling. In addition, a geometric car wall display was created using straight wooden strips to connect closed blocks, resulting in texture walls that stand out against the forming overlapping blocks in different directions.

The design of Bosheng also considers the viewing convenience of the entrance of the exhibition hall. The office management room is placed in the second half of the space, providing customers with an open vision upon entering the hall. This layout also ensures full natural light exposure, filling the internal space with abundant life.

The project, which started in February 2017 and was completed in May of the same year, faced several challenges. One of the main challenges was achieving organic integration and unity in two different morphological languages that are superimposed on a circular arc geometry and a square. However, through careful consideration of the proportions of blocks, forms, and distances between the goods, the designer was able to solve the fusion between different forms and make it convenient for production.

The Bosheng Car Showroom aims to display middle glass and premium cars, emphasizing the "space feeling" in the process of displaying the product. The designer takes the role of an observer to create a harmonious commonness between business and individualized space. The display of the car was effectively lined up, with all cars coexisting in an organic ecological environment and carrying the memory of each customer together. This innovative design was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
