The Low Chair Mac: A Precious Blend of Furniture and Jewelry

A Unique Design Inspired by Brazilian Jewelry and Handmade Furniture

The low chair Mac is a stunning piece of furniture that combines the visual aspects of contemporary Brazilian jewelry with the craftsmanship of handmade furniture. Designed by Marcio Sassine, this chair not only showcases the beauty of design but also brings awareness to the use of wood as a precious and limited material.

The main inspiration behind the low chair Mac was to highlight the importance of wood as a valuable resource. With the growing concern for climate change and the impact of human activities on nature, it is crucial to prioritize the use of renewable wood sources. In addition, recycling old noble wood can provide a sustainable solution. The chair Mac uses wood from demolished farmhouses, specifically selected to give a third life to the noble Brazilian tree called Pink Peroba. This concept aims to raise awareness about the significance of wood usage and the need for universal laws to protect renewable resources.

What sets the low chair Mac apart is its unique blend of contemporary jewelry and handmade furniture. Brazil, known for its vast tropical forests, plays a crucial role in preserving natural resources. The wood used in this project comes from demolished farmhouses and is treated with the same level of preciousness as the golden brass backrest. Every material used in the chair is meticulously assembled by the hands of local artisans, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The realization of the low chair Mac involved a meticulous process that bridged the gap between furniture and jewelry design. The materials were treated with the same care and precision as jewelry makers would handle precious stones. Each step of the process was meticulously handcrafted by local Brazilian artisans, resulting in a chair that is not only visually stunning but also a testament to the skill and dedication of the craftsmen.

The low chair Mac has dimensions of 690mm in width, 880mm in depth, and 660mm in height, making it a comfortable and visually striking piece of furniture. It was designed to captivate the observer's eyes with its passion and elegance while providing surprising comfort, even during meditation sessions.

The project started in June 2017 in Uberaba and was completed in May 2018 in São Paulo. The chair was exhibited at the University of São Paulo at the Brazilian Furniture Exhibition, showcasing its unique design and craftsmanship.

The low chair Mac is not just a piece of furniture; it is a symbol of the preciousness of nature and the importance of sustainable design. By using reclaimed wood and combining it with the aesthetics of contemporary jewelry, Marcio Sassine has created a piece that not only adds beauty to any space but also serves as a reminder of the need to protect our natural resources.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill. The low chair Mac stands as a testament to the fusion of art, science, design, and technology, contributing to the improvement of quality of life and making the world a better place.
