Panos Cafe: A Unique Exotic Restaurant with a Blend of Art and Craftsmanship

Blending Loft-Style Elements and Handicraft to Create a Distinctive Dining Experience

The project started in March 2017 and finished in August 2017 in Taipei city.

The Panos Cafe, designed by Martin Lin of East Light Interior Design Co.,Ltd, is a 24-hour exotic restaurant that offers a unique dining experience. With its blend of loft-style elements and artistic craftsmanship, this restaurant stands out from the crowd. The designer aimed to create a space that would be equally appealing to customers, whether they visit during the day or at nighttime.

The highlight of the Panos Cafe is its innovative use of projection lighting to control the range and illumination of light, creating varied ambiences throughout the day. The designer took advantage of this technology to shape the dining space with fun and artistic traits. Ceramic printed tiles, pine frames, and exotic ornaments were incorporated into the decor, serving as endorsements for the restaurant's offerings and highlighting its unique features.

One of the standout features of the Panos Cafe is the special back wall crafted with painted tiles. This wall adds a touch of elegance and visual interest to the space. Additionally, the first floor features a stunning display area for the restaurant's signature handmade bread. A long bread rack made of pine wood showcases the bread items, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The linear-shaped openwork bread rack adds liveliness and visual appeal to the space.

The Panos Cafe is a visual delight, with its abundant lighting and carefully chosen color palette. The walnut and black-colored LOGO background, coupled with the bright pine color, creates a harmonious visual level. The bar's back wall on the first floor is paved with imported ceramic printed tiles from Turkey, featuring 24 different patterns. The use of animal fur texture on the train chairs, along with hand-made instruments brought back from Africa, adds a touch of primitive rough industrial style to the space.

The Panos Cafe offers more than just a visually appealing environment. The bar counter displays 16 different types of beer, creating a unique visual effect. The balcony and preparation area have been cleverly utilized to create a small sofa area and a lounge, which can be opened or turned into a secret lounge with the help of sliding doors. This versatile space allows for different usage scenarios and adds to the overall experience of the restaurant.

Designing a branch of a restaurant chain comes with its own set of challenges. The designer had to adhere to the brand spirit while creating unique characteristics for each store. In the case of the Panos Cafe, the designer blended loft-style elements with the neat, bright modern style to create a distinctive dining space. Iron mesh was placed on the original structure of the building and painted black, and track lights were installed using the mesh. Projection lamps were used to control the range and illumination of light, allowing for different atmospheres to be created in different areas of the restaurant.

The Panos Cafe is a testament to the creativity and resourcefulness of its designer, Martin Lin. This unique and visually stunning restaurant has been recognized for its outstanding design. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements.

With its blend of art, craftsmanship, and innovative design, the Panos Cafe offers a dining experience like no other. Whether you visit during the day or at nighttime, you are sure to be captivated by the unique ambience and attention to detail that this restaurant has to offer.
