Tern Air Purifier: A Space-Saving Solution for Small Apartments

Revolutionizing Air Purification with Innovative Design

Living in a small apartment can often pose challenges when it comes to optimizing space and maintaining a healthy living environment. Recognizing the inconveniences faced by users of traditional air purifiers, designer Kairui Wan introduces Tern Air Purifier, a groundbreaking solution that combines functionality, efficiency, and space-saving design.

Tern Air Purifier is the brainchild of designer Kairui Wan, who sought to address the common issues encountered by users of air purifiers in small apartments. The inspiration behind this innovative design stemmed from the desire to optimize user experience, conserve space, and reduce energy consumption. Wan explains, "We want to propose a new solution that changes the user's usage patterns to optimize the user experience and save space and power."

What sets Tern Air Purifier apart from traditional models is its modular design, consisting of two air purifiers - one large and one small - and a display screen resembling a wall clock. The display screen is typically hung on the bedroom wall, providing users with real-time air quality data in an intuitive and clear manner.

The smaller air purifier can be easily detached from the larger unit and placed in any room that requires purification. This modular approach allows users to target specific areas, saving both space and electrical power. The Tern Air Purifier's compact dimensions of Width 420 mm x Depth 340 mm x Height 735 mm make it an ideal choice for small apartments.

One of the key features of Tern Air Purifier is its air quality detector, which functions similarly to a wall clock. This detector enables users to easily monitor the air quality in their rooms, providing guidance and reminders to take appropriate action when necessary. When the user notices a decline in air quality, they can simply remove the smaller air purifier from the larger unit and place it in the room that requires purification.

The Tern Air Purifier project commenced in September 2017 in Wuhan and was completed in March 2018. The design was recognized for its ingenuity and received the prestigious Red Dot Award in 2018's Red Dot Award: Design Concept. This accolade further solidifies the Tern Air Purifier's status as a groundbreaking solution in the field of air purification.

Through extensive research, Wan identified the common inconveniences faced by users of air purifiers in small apartments, such as wasted interior space and excessive use of multiple devices. Wan's goal was to guide and change user habits through innovative product design, ultimately enhancing user convenience, conserving space, and promoting energy efficiency.

The Tern Air Purifier's unique design and functionality have garnered widespread acclaim. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Home Appliances Design category in 2019. This recognition is a testament to the product's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements.

With Tern Air Purifier, Kairui Wan has revolutionized the air purification industry by offering a space-saving solution that seamlessly integrates into small apartments. By combining functionality, efficiency, and innovative design, Tern Air Purifier sets a new standard for air purification in modern living spaces.
