IFC Center of Shandong Greenland: A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Li Zhang's Award-Winning Design Fuses Ancient Architecture with Contemporary Aesthetics

Li Zhang's design for the IFC Center of Shandong Greenland, a project located in the Central Business District of Jinan City, China, is a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional and modern architectural styles. Drawing inspiration from the hip roof architecture of the Confucian Temple in Qufu, Zhang has created a space that is both elegant and splendid, offering a unique visual and experiential journey for its inhabitants.

The design's uniqueness lies in its ability to create a relationship between the human and the space, the interior and exterior, the architecture and nature, and the traditional and modern. This series of relationships are designed to enhance human environmental experiences, transforming the space into a sanctuary for the human body. The project spans 2850 square meters and is constructed using a variety of materials including Turkish Cream Antotalia, Milan gray marble, Italian serpeggiante marble, white oak facing, rose gold brushed stainless steel, gloss lacquering board, and leather hard packing.

Zhang's design philosophy centers on the connections between humanity's inclinations and nature, aiming to satisfy clients' preferences based on the multiple values of design. The design team, consisting of Zhang Li and Jin Shing, sought to embed traditional culture into the contemporary, extracting traditional elements to present artistic essence in an extremely modern style. The interweaving of light and shadow, akin to stars twinkling around the moon and scattering in the sky, is a testament to this approach.

The project faced several challenges, including seeking a modern aesthetic delicacy under the theme of artistic orient. The design team had to integrate the space context with the furniture, ensuring that all elements in the space complemented each other. The use of green plant walls to extend the tension of the green added a peaceful and unsophisticated natural beauty to the space, creating a new feeling from the activation of the collision between the wood and the stone materials.

The IFC Center of Shandong Greenland project was awarded Silver in the A' Construction and Real Estate Projects Design Award in 2019. The Silver A' Design Award is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

In conclusion, Li Zhang's design for the IFC Center of Shandong Greenland is a shining example of the fusion of tradition and modernity in architecture. By integrating traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics, Zhang has created a space that is not only visually stunning but also enhances the human environmental experience. This project serves as a reminder of the limitless possibilities that can be achieved when tradition and modernity are harmoniously blended.
