Pan Pacific Yangon: A Masterpiece of Burmese Inspired Design

CCD - Cheng Chung Design Marries Modern Design with Myanmar's Unique Style

CCD - Cheng Chung Design has created a unique blend of modern design and traditional Burmese style in the Pan Pacific Yangon, a high-class hotel located in the heart of Myanmar's Peace City. This design masterpiece, which has won the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, showcases the best of Myanmar's unique products and culture.

The Pan Pacific Yangon, located in the downtown area of Chinatown, Yangon City, Myanmar, is a testament to the creative prowess of CCD - Cheng Chung Design. The hotel, which is adjacent to Myanmar’s most famous and charming Yangon Shwedagon Pagoda, draws inspiration from the Quinta Buddha Light. The design team has artistically processed and shaped the basic elements of the Burmese style, creating a perfect combination of the unique local style and modern design.

CCD - Cheng Chung Design used unique products from Myanmar in the realization of the Pan Pacific Yangon. These include wood, bamboo, rattan, traditional cloth, jade, bone, ivory, paper, and umbrella. The design elements include water waves, sand texture patterns, and different color combinations. The goal was to integrate the hotel space with different features color, decoration, and landscape to create a harmonious balance between Myanmar's culture and modern design.

The project, which was completed in February 2018, faced several challenges. The materials required by the hotel were based on the national star hotel material standards, necessitating the use of high-grade and luxurious materials. This meant that the engineering team had to source materials from Xiamen, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou and transport them to Yangon. To overcome this challenge, a special material arrangement team was set up to coordinate all the material to ensure the progress of the project.

The design team, led by Joe Cheng and Ken Hu, also had to ensure that the complex designs used in the selection of materials did not affect the overall construction. The seams and closings of the joints between the engineering wall and the ceiling and the different materials of the floor finishes became more and more during the construction process. At the final stage of the project, the selection and placement of furniture, lamps, and artworks were personally guided by the professional design team and FF&E team to ensure perfection.

The Pan Pacific Yangon is a testament to the creative prowess of CCD - Cheng Chung Design. The hotel, which is a blend of modern design and traditional Burmese style, has won the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
