Incorporating the principles of minimalism, Denmark showcases construction technology and design innovation. From the choice of materials to the layout, furniture, and lighting arrangement, every aspect of the design exudes a sense of humble and elegant design substance, as well as functionality and practicality. The Danish aesthetics, deeply rooted in nature, are reflected in the boundary-less design techniques, such as extended lighting strips, which contribute to the environmentally friendly and sustainable goals of the project.
The realization of Denmark involved the use of various materials, including German sliced stone, Japanese diatomaceous earth, gloss stainless steel, washed masonry tile, timber veneer, quartz tiles, and glass. The selection of these materials was driven by a focus on health, durability, and ease of maintenance. The result is an interior that not only looks stunning but is also dirt-proof and easy to clean.
With an interior area of approximately 180 square meters, Denmark embraces a minimalist vocabulary in all surfaces, materials, and coloring. The use of grey-scale sliced stone on both sides of the interior accentuates the purity of the white color of the TV wall and dining area brick wall. The furniture and decorative items further complement the minimalist aesthetic, creating a harmonious and visually appealing space.
The design of Denmark also prioritizes interaction and intimacy. Originally, the study was arranged as a closed-off space, but the owner desired a more connected environment for their family. To achieve this, the partition wall was replaced with a half-height TV wall, allowing for easy access and transparency. This change fosters a sense of togetherness and encourages interaction among family members.
The Denmark project began in June 2017 and was completed in February 2018 in New Taipei City. Extensive research went into the layout composition strategy, with a focus on open-plan living and maximizing window views. The stunning shoreline vista is brought into the interior, creating a captivating entrance and framing the view as a manifestation of entrance semantics. To ensure privacy, electrically-operating louvre blinds integrated with an ambiance control system were utilized.
One of the main challenges in designing Denmark was to articulate the owner's preference for minimalist styling while imbuing the space with a sense of unparalleled quality. The decision to return the space to a double-height and large-plan quality, combined with naturalistic materials and decorative line work, successfully achieved this balance.
Simplicity is at the core of Denmark's construction technology and innovative design. From the seemingly simple materiality and layout of the space to the furniture and lighting arrangement, the design embodies the essence of Danish design with its functionality and practicality. Notably, the designers extended the infinity window features with extended striped lighting, contributing to the project's environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable goals.
Denmark is a testament to the power of minimalist design, showcasing the beauty that can be achieved through simplicity and elegance. With its unique blend of Danish aesthetics and practicality, this residential design by Tzu-Chi Su is a true masterpiece.
