Reviving Ancient Aesthetics: Lianfa Jade Mansion in Hangzhou

GND Design Limited's Innovative Approach to Landscape Design

The Lianfa Jade Mansion in Hangzhou, China, is a unique landscape design project that has successfully captured the essence of ancient aesthetics in a contemporary context. The project, designed by GND Design Limited, is a Sales Centre that has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect the rich cultural heritage of its location while simultaneously embracing modern design principles.

The design inspiration for the project was derived from the venue's square courtyard of about 1000 square meters. The landscape designer aimed to maximize the landscape space by employing a strategy of "reducing instead of increasing, and simplifying what is complicated". This approach resulted in the creation of multilayer courtyards, each offering a unique visual and experiential delight.

The unique properties of the design lie in its successful fusion of the clear and refined ancient rhyme into the elegant space, creating a poetic atmosphere. This is beautifully encapsulated in the Chinese poetry from Tang Dynasty, “Your villa lies in a deep secluded gloom, who won't be a hermit in your room?”

The realization of the design was made possible by incorporating the subtle elegance of classical gardens on the Yangtze Delta with local natural and humanistic factors. The project is located in Liangzhu Town, Hangzhou, where the Liangzhu culture emerged 5,000 years ago is known as the "Dawn of Civilization".

The design specifications include layered courtyards, each offering varying sceneries with each step. The design elements include osmanthus screens, signs with ancient charm, wall lamps, and jade art installations, all of which contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the project. The design also makes skillful use of the borrowed scenery to sketch the most atmospheric appeal of new Chinese style.

The Lianfa Jade Mansion project was completed in July 2018 and has since been recognized for its innovative approach to landscape design. The project was awarded Bronze in A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness, making the world a better place.
