Gerhard Kirchschläger, a renowned graphic designer, has created a visually appealing magazine that presents creative recipes with aesthetic photos and detailed text design. The layout of the magazine is designed to convey special taste experiences and the social pleasure that eating together brings. The food is photographed on white plates against a white background, ensuring that the focus is on the visually appealing food.
'Please, Don't Stay Hungry' stands out for its playful title and personal way of speaking to the target group, characteristics that are true to the original blog. The magazine serves as a finely designed alternative to online content, offering offline moments that will be remembered. The recipes in the magazine are linked to the food blog, inviting interaction between the print and digital mediums.
The magazine is a product of a six-month design project carried out in Austria from December 2018 to May 2019. The idea was to put the photos and recipes of the food blog on printed paper, creating a tangible product that invites interaction with the website. The design process involved overcoming challenges related to the combination of font and image, typographic details, open type features, and font mixing.
The result is a 28-page, 8.268x12 inch magazine that is printed in 4 colours and bound with saddle sewn binding. The magazine features the favourite recipes of Karin Stoettinger from her food blog 'Geschmacksmomente', presented in a visually appealing and engaging format. The design team included graphic designer Gerhard Kirchschläger and photographer Karin Stoettinger.
'Please, Don't Stay Hungry' was recognized for its innovative design and was awarded the Golden A' Print and Published Media Design Award in 2019. The Golden A' Design Award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
