The Masion: A Modern Minimalist City Clubhouse

Michael Chen's Award-Winning Design Combines Oriental Aesthetics and Contemporary Art

The Masion is not just a building; it's a testament to Chen's innovative approach to design. Inspired by Chengdu's rainy climate, Chen chose white as the main color for the building. The exterior is wrapped in a punched aluminum plate, processed into a folding fan window, making the entire building resemble a gentleman dressed in white. The result is a striking contrast to the city's predominantly dark-colored architecture, making The Masion stand out.

But the innovation doesn't stop at the exterior. Inside, the 1700 square meter space is a blend of modern minimalism and oriental aesthetics. The materials used, including Chinese black stone, volcanic rock stone, imitation stone floor tile, white steel plate, black sandblasting stainless steel plate, wood finish, art coating, and ultra white glass, all contribute to a unique spatial temperament that exudes tranquility and comfort.

Despite the challenges posed by Chengdu's humid and rainy climate, Chen and his team managed to create a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical. The large area of ground glass allows sunlight to filter into the interior, providing a clear view of the inside. The design elements and material choices reflect a careful consideration of the natural environment.

The Masion serves as a city exhibition hall and office, providing a lifestyle experience for its visitors. It is a testament to Chen's ability to transform an existing space into a new aesthetic realm. Through simple design, Chen has managed to present an exquisite effect, making The Masion a symbol of modern design in Chengdu.

For his innovative design, Michael Chen was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.
