Owndays: A Minimalist Interior Design Inspired by the Rhino Exoskeleton

Creating a Balance Between Function and Form

Inspired by the Rhino Exoskeleton, the Owndays interior design by Chen Wei Chun is a unique and minimalist approach to small space living. With a focus on optimizing the relationship between space volume and movement, this design offers a visually appealing and practical solution for everyday life.

The Owndays design stands out with its ability to compress visual and practical elements without sacrificing functionality. Chen Wei Chun took into consideration the needs of a family with children and incorporated a reduced protruding shape in the main facade of the space. By utilizing material properties, the design achieves both tactile and visual stability, striking the perfect balance between linearity and gauge blocks.

One of the standout features of the Owndays design is the clever integration of different functions and living spaces within the dividing lines between leather and wall coverings. This allows each space to be presented as complete as possible, despite the limited square footage. The design follows the principle of "less is more," where function becomes the form, resulting in a sleek and cohesive aesthetic.

The realization of the Owndays design involved the use of large area leather adhesion, ensuring a flat and non-sinking solution. This technique not only enhances the visual appeal of the space but also contributes to the overall walking safety and cladding experience.

The Owndays design project took place in Taiwan, Taipei, from January 15th, 2021, to July 15th, 2021. Chen Wei Chun led the design team, overcoming various challenges such as working with large area artificial leather, wall coverings, door panels, and walls. The mastery of properties like seasonal expansion and durability was crucial in achieving the desired aesthetic and functionality.

The Owndays design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate professional and industrial requirements, integrating best practices and technical characteristics to create a better world.
