The Solitude: A Harmonious Blend of Nature, Humanity, and Art

The Solitude stands out with its unique properties and strengths. The design is composed of three essential parts: calming blue spaces that shape the structure, strong salient metal lines, and warm marble textures that bolster its surface. By utilizing negative space between each sector, the living space gains a sense of broadened circulation and different layers.

The realization of The Solitude involves the use of titanium-plated metal, natural marble tiles, handmade mineral paint, wood veneer, and ceramic tiles. With these materials, the design achieves a harmonious blend of textures and finishes.

Spanning 141 square meters, The Solitude comprises three rooms and two toilets. Its spatial organization maximizes functionality, with a minimalist approach to shaping spaces. The emphasis on the original beam and column system enhances spatial efficiency and connectivity. The careful placement of distinct geometric objects and materials allows for the mobility of natural light and shades, creating a harmonious ambiance.

The design of The Solitude also focuses on the interconnection between the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The layout values the interactions between family members in the passageways while maintaining the privacy of individual rooms. Soft-fitting furniture and accessories enrich the rhythm of the spatial progression, completing the balance and open layout.

The Solitude was brought to life in New Taipei City, Taiwan, from December 2017 to January 2018. The project required thorough spatial consideration and extensive research to achieve its seamless integration of the living environment and its occupants. By promoting peace and harmony in the midst of urban living, The Solitude offers a sanctuary from the complexities of daily life.

Yen Pin Chen and the design team, including Kai sheng Yu and Wei Lien Hsu, have created a masterpiece that has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award. The Solitude was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This accolade acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, which authentically embodies experience and resourcefulness. The use of best practices in art, science, design, and technology contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
