Sunrising: A Fresh Japanese-style Residence

Interior Design

The public area in front of the residence is open space. In the private area, the designer has changed the floor plan from four bedrooms to three bedrooms. In addition to the master bedroom and the second bedroom, the designer also created an elegant washitsu which is raised a few steps.

The Sunrising residence, designed by Yi-Lun Hsu, is a unique and refreshing take on Japanese-style interior design. With a focus on functionality and a blend of traditional and modern elements, this residence offers a truly captivating living experience.

The vitality of the space comes from the rich wooden textures, bright colors, serene atmosphere, and the presence of various indoor plants. By combining Japanese patterns with a modern lifestyle, Sunrising presents a clearly structured residential experience that embodies the essence of Japanese design.

One of the standout features of this design is the washitsu, a traditional Japanese-style room with tatami flooring that is raised a few steps. This elegant space adds depth and character to the residence, creating a tranquil atmosphere that contrasts with the bright and vibrant living areas.

The design of the Sunrising residence prioritizes functionality, with careful consideration given to the needs of the homeowners. The floor plan was modified to create a more spacious living room and a new dressing room for the master bedroom. The result is a fresh and inviting space that seamlessly blends Japanese aesthetics with modern living.

The interior design of Sunrising is characterized by warm colors, exposed concrete walls, and an abundance of natural light. The living room features a TV wall made of exposed concrete, which adds a sense of calmness to the space. The couch, positioned by the windows, not only provides comfortable seating but also serves as a storage solution. Large potted plants and tea trays are thoughtfully placed on the couch, adding a touch of nature to the room.

Behind the sofa seat, a reserved space is dedicated to a piano and bookcase, allowing the homeowners to enjoy music and reading in a cozy corner. The dining space, on the other hand, is simple yet elegant, with a bright "sunrising" wall made of red cast stone serving as a visual focal point.

The Sunrising residence, completed in November 2018 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, showcases the meticulous research and attention to detail that went into its design. Along the corridor, commemorative calendar pages hang on the walls, adding a personal touch to the space. The washitsu, adorned with wooden grilles, creates an illusion of expanded indoor space, while the interplay of light and shadow adds to the corridor's beauty.

Yi-Lun Hsu's design for the Sunrising residence successfully overcame creative and technical challenges, resulting in a harmonious blend of Japanese aesthetics and modern functionality. This unique and captivating design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade that celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations.

Experience the beauty and tranquility of Japanese-style living with the Sunrising residence, where tradition meets modernity in perfect harmony.
