The Tidal Container Office is a groundbreaking design that offers a unique solution for small office spaces. Inspired by the social phenomenon of urban migration in contemporary China, designer Hao Zhang sought to compress the city-scale tidal energy into a concrete space. The result is a compact yet highly functional office that maximizes every square meter.
As a design office, the need for various working and assistant spaces is essential. However, with only 80 square meters available, achieving these functions in one place seemed impossible. That's where the Tidal system comes in. By utilizing a box system that can be assembled and disassembled, the office can transform and adapt to different needs.
The Tidal Container Office is designed as a fully bolted structure system, with prefabricated building components that are assembled on-site. This approach not only saves time but also minimizes construction waste. The entire assembly process takes just three hours, allowing for easy transportation to the next workspace.
The key feature of the Tidal Container Office is its ability to combine various functions into a standard 20-foot shipping container. When these functions are not needed, the four parts and a complete box can be combined to maximize the remaining space. This flexibility allows for a variety of space experiences through the free combination of the bottom pulley space form.
Located in Beijing, China, the Tidal Container Office challenges the traditional notions of office design. By collapsing the concepts of home, office, and public space, it creates a dynamic environment that adapts to the ever-changing needs of a design office. The system allows for rapid adjustments and accommodates the uncertainties of a new office.
The Tidal Container Office was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design. This prestigious award recognizes designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
