The design of this multi-floor residence was inspired by the rational division of space and the sensibilities of details. Wei envisioned a home that accommodates comfort and originality, a place that offers a sense of well-being. The challenge was to avoid the emptiness that can come with a spacious residence with few family members. To tackle this, Wei used the surface of the hardware wall as the main axis, while light, furniture, and materiality defined the invisible boundaries. The result is a harmonious blend of concrete and abstract elements that thread together different rooms into a coherent order.
Wei's design is distinguished by its unique properties. The interaction and fusion of the concrete and the abstract elements create a sense of opening and closeness within the interior. The residents can perceive this in their warm security and the solid entity of the building. The design is a testament to Wei's ability to create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
The realization of this design was made possible through the use of grey whiteness, a color scheme that extends into the space with a mixture of cool and warm tones. The large divisions of the vertical metal components and embedded light mark the ambiguous front and rear portions of the space. The design covers an area of 540 square meters, a testament to Wei's ability to maximize space.
Wei's design was influenced by the weather, sunshine, and the needs of the owners. The layout of the elevator and staircases is located on the rear of the middle-right of the building. The smallest reasonable scale defines the vertical circulation while the floor layout of the private and shared areas follow the natural light. The allocation of the interior of the sixth floor is appropriate to its scale in space. Both the revealing and hiding are articulated.
The design was completed in May 2018 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It was a result of extensive research into the concept of a multi-story home that requires a lot of openness and concealment. Each spatial function has its own unique character, and it has opened and closed aesthetics. The design was awarded Bronze in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding and creatively ingenious design.
In conclusion, Will Wei's multi-floor residence is a masterpiece of design innovation. It stands out for its unique use of space, its blend of concrete and abstract elements, and its ability to create a sense of opening and closeness within the interior. The design is a testament to Wei's ability to create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, a space that truly makes the owner feel peaceful in every corner.
