We Runners: A Training Hall for Sports Enthusiasts and Children

Transforming Architecture into Harmony with Nature

In view of the unique characteristics of the central villa area in this case, designer Changming Wang makes full use of the beautiful landscape ecological advantages along the banks of Wenyu River to cultivate and create the original design, life art aesthetics, running experience, and leisure services that concern sports enthusiasts and children as a special theme of the project.

This is the design of a marathon running hall that aims to merge the original complex architectural form into a small building, showcasing a state of harmony between man and nature. Changming Wang, the designer, believes in the perfect unity of strength and wisdom, and this design embodies that belief. The We Runners training hall allows sports enthusiasts and children to feel the charm of this unity.

The main materials used in this project include steel, red brick, glass curtain wall, plastic floor, anticorrosive wood, and square steel. These materials are carefully chosen to ensure durability and functionality while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the design.

The building area of this project is 3300 square meters, with an interior design area of 1700 square meters. The design team, consisting of Changming Wang, Junkai Wu, Jie Sun, and Ying Hao, worked together to bring this project to life.

To highlight the importance of the landscape axis area, the designer incorporated a glass curtain wall in the location of the water scene and the main body of the building. This integration ensures that the building does not overpower the overall environment, creating a seamless blend with the surroundings.

The We Runners training hall project started in November 2017 and was completed in May 2018 in Beijing. Throughout the design process, the team focused on creating a green, energy-saving, and human-oriented space environment. By combining natural and artificial light, they were able to achieve a perfect balance that enhances the overall experience.

The design of the training hall posed several challenges. The team had to consider how to combine the style and function of the building with the tone of the main building. Additionally, they needed to ensure that the design interacted harmoniously with the local cultural landscape and aligned with the theme of running.

The entrance form of the building was determined based on the road inside the park, which then influenced the overall space structure. The single slope and eaves of the roof allowed the building to seamlessly blend into the green environment. Under the eaves, a leisure space was designed to integrate sports venues and leisure activities. Pools, lawns, and direct access routes were strategically placed to cater to different groups of people.

The We Runners training hall design by Changming Wang has been recognized for its excellence. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
