Revolutionizing Weekend Living: The T Weekend Residence

Award-Winning Design by Noriaki Takeda and Ikuma Yoshizawa

Perched on a 13-meter elevation with a view of the sea, the T Weekend Residence is a unique creation by designers Noriaki Takeda and Ikuma Yoshizawa. This innovative residential house offers a break from city life, providing a tranquil space to rejuvenate during weekends. The design, which won the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2019, cleverly utilizes the site's natural features and introduces a new concept of weekend living.

The T Weekend Residence is not a typical vacation house or lodging facility. Instead, it is a functional lifestyle space designed for relaxation and direct interaction with nature. The designers have arranged the elevated site into three different-leveled slabs, each serving a unique purpose. The roof terrace, main room, and outdoor living area offer diverse activities at different levels within the same building.

One of the unique features of this design is the core that penetrates these three slabs. This core not only connects the slabs but also serves as a gravity ventilation device, ensuring a comfortable indoor environment. The different leveled slabs allow residents to enjoy the view from the sloped land and establish a direct relationship with the earth through activities like gardening.

The realization of this design involved a meticulous arrangement of the elevated site. The three slabs are joined at the structure’s core, a long and slender 10m high stairwell. This core functions as a buffer zone that joins each of the slabs, drastically expanding the space and creating a sense of openness. The core also acts as a gravity ventilation device, creating a comfortable and pleasant interior space.

The T Weekend Residence covers a lot area of 511.90m2, with a construction area of 95.45m2 and a floor area of 175.55m2. The design team included Noriaki Takeda, Ikuma Yoshikawa, Inter Tech, and U'plan. The project was completed in October 2015 in West Japan.

The T Weekend Residence is a testament to the designers' ability to create a functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing space that allows residents to enjoy nature and find tranquility away from the city. The design was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.

In conclusion, the T Weekend Residence is a unique and innovative design that redefines the concept of weekend living. It is a perfect blend of functionality, comfort, and aesthetics, offering a tranquil space for residents to rejuvenate and enjoy nature. The design's success is a testament to the creativity and expertise of designers Noriaki Takeda and Ikuma Yoshizawa.
