Human Light: Capturing the Essence of Architectural Purity

A Photography Series by Feng Yicheng

Architecture is the 'light' of the human intellect. This is the core concept behind the photography series, Human Light, by Feng Yicheng. Through his lens, Yicheng aims to convey a sense of pristine in the architectural marvels achieved by mankind. The series showcases the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, capturing the clean, minimal interior and exterior facade that exudes purity and serenity.

Human Light is a meditative medium that allows viewers to appreciate the visual minimalism and aesthetics of the space. Each photograph presents a wholistic view of the spaces, emphasizing the geometric beauty and the crystalization of human wisdom. The photographs generate a 'pure' and 'quiet' atmosphere, inviting viewers to get lost in their thoughts and enter a state of meditation.

All images in the Human Light series were shot with a Canon 5D Mk.III DSLR and processed using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Yicheng used an aperture of F4.0 to provide a certain degree of depth while presenting a holistic view of the spaces. The resulting digital images are available in a 3840*3840px, 300dpi format.

The project started in July 2018 in Munich and ended in August 2018 in Shanghai, encompassing the shoot process as well as the post-processing work. Yicheng's research for this series involved capturing natural light in man-made spaces, presenting a clean and minimal aesthetic look.

Human Light, with its minimalistic approach and focus on the interplay of light and architecture, has garnered recognition in the design community. In 2019, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Photography and Photo Manipulation category. This prestigious award is given to designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements.

Human Light is a testament to the power of architectural design and the beauty that can be found in simplicity. Through his photography, Feng Yicheng invites viewers to appreciate the harmony between man-made structures and the light that illuminates them, reminding us that architecture is indeed the 'light' of the human intellect.
