Diavelo Ibrido: A Revolution in Electric Bicycles

Designed by Brian Hoehl, the Diavelo Ibrido Veloce is a hybrid electric bicycle with a futuristic, artistic, and sporty design.

Diavelo Ibrido Veloce, an innovative design by Brian Hoehl, is a game-changer in the world of electric bicycles. It's a hybrid between a regular electric bicycle and a conventional one, with its battery carried separately in a backpack. The design is a perfect blend of futuristic aesthetics, sporty appeal, and holistic approach, all realized with the use of advanced autoclave carbon materials.

The inspiration for the Diavelo Ibrido Veloce came from user insights. The idea was to separate the battery from the bicycle, making it a hybrid product that can function as both a regular and an electric bicycle. The battery is only used when needed, thus offering flexibility to the user.

What sets the Diavelo Ibrido Veloce apart from other electric bikes is its unique design approach. All the electric parts are integrated and hidden in the crank and the carbon frame. The use of new autoclave carbon materials makes this electric bicycle much lighter than its counterparts. The design is holistic, futuristic, artistic, and sporty, all at the same time.

The realization of the bicycle involved an autoclave production method with carbon as the material. This process makes the frame extra strong and durable while keeping it light. The bike measures 175 x 48 x 95 cm and weighs only 9.9 kilos. It features a belt drive and a single gear.

The design process took 12 months and was based on an insight process where the team studied how consumers use their electric bike in certain demographic areas. Research was conducted in aerodynamics, weight ratio to stiffness of the frames - a new method in the electric bicycles industry. The most critical challenge was to reduce the weight to a record-breaking level while maintaining the added weight of a battery and a motor. This was achieved by using untraditional materials for an electric bike such as carbon and kevlar instead of metal and alloy.

The Diavelo Ibrido Veloce is a testament to Brian Hoehl's innovative design approach. It was awarded the Golden A' Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. This design significantly impacts the world with its desirable characteristics and extraordinary excellence.
