Assembly and Combination: A Unique Ceramic Tableware Design

Creating Practical and Stylish Dining Experiences

This project, aptly named Assembly and Combination, showcases a collection of cups, bowls, and dishes that can be used individually or combined to form larger containers. Each piece is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, making it a perfect addition to any stylish home.

One of the unique properties of this ceramic tableware set is its ability to withstand higher temperatures, making it ideal for serving hot food and beverages. Additionally, ceramics are known for their ease of cleaning, adding to the convenience and practicality of this design.

The realization of this design involves a meticulous process. Starting with determining the appropriate dimensions, plaster molds are created to shape the clay mixture. After drying and glazing, the pieces are fired at a temperature of around 1300 degrees Celsius, ensuring their durability and longevity.

The bowls measure 14cm x 14cm x 8cm, while the cups have dimensions of 5cm x 5cm x 7cm, providing the perfect size for everyday use. Whether used individually or stacked together, this tableware design offers endless possibilities for both functionality and decoration.

Research shows that the environment in which we dine can greatly impact our appetite. With Assembly and Combination, Xizhi Zhang aims to enhance the dining experience by creating tableware that is not only useful but also visually appealing. Despite the challenges of working with ceramics, Xizhi Zhang overcame the technical difficulties associated with distortion during the firing process. Through extensive knowledge of clay materials and molding techniques, this design successfully maintains its intended form and functionality.

Assembly and Combination was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category. This prestigious accolade recognizes the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial standards. It is a testament to the designer's commitment to creating well-designed and functional creations that contribute to a better world.
