DecoMetal Laminate: A Fusion of Art and Functionality

Designers Eva Hoernisch and Renee Hytry Derrington Create a Unique Surfacing Material

The DecoMetal Laminate project was born out of a desire to create a design that was not only diverse in its look but could also be used in a variety of spaces. The global design team worked with architects and designers around the country to learn what metals piqued their interest most. The result is Oxibronze, a striking metallic design that is hand-finished to ensure each sheet has a unique and uniform patina.

DecoMetal Laminate is not just about aesthetics. It's also about functionality. The Oxibronze design is easy to clean and fire resistant, making it a safe and durable choice for various applications. It can be used to add flair to walls, furniture, retail fixtures, signage, exhibits, and displays. The design is available in two sheet sizes, both 12,192 mm thick.

The creation of Oxibronze was a meticulous process. The design team used a layered process of polishing, staining, and repolishing real brass foil to ensure each sheet has a unique and uniform patina. This process was inspired by nature's living metals and aimed to emulate an organic fluid effect similar to a metallic woodgrain.

DecoMetal Laminate by Formica Corporation is a testament to the power of design and innovation. It has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Building Materials and Construction Components Design Award in 2019. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements and contribute to a better world.
