House of Light: A Beacon of Innovative Interior Design

Don Lin's Award-Winning Design Marries Functionality and Aesthetics

House of Light is a unique project that breaks away from traditional layout norms. It introduces a sense of coherence by pairing light space and light attitude. The design features line proportions that delusionally recreate the living and dining areas together. An angular line separates these two zones, while a series of levitating planks emphasize simplicity through geometry.

The design's unique properties lie in its ability to foster interaction and communication. For instance, a refashioned bunk bed not only entertains the kids but also serves a functional purpose. Steps double as storage spaces, graphic walls uplift the mood, and a slide strengthens sibling relationships. The design aims to create a balanced space that kids love the most.

The House of Light also features a unique bedroom layout. A segregation strategy distinguishes the walk-in wardrobe from the sleeping space, harmonizing with the owner's lifestyle. A black theme scattered around the room adds an attitude to the space.

The design was realized by casting a tree house scale within the living and dining area. This functional divider allows the owner to enjoy both openness and privacy. A grey neutral colour was implemented to enable the overall material to strike an attention, while a blue accent was slowly introduced into a main wall to refresh the overall mood.

The project posed several challenges, primarily dealing with the lightness of the house and the lights within. The overall concept was to contrive a levitate effect, and by doing so, a presentable light source was introduced to rebrand the entire space. This innovative lighting solution casts a fashionable floating ambiance into the house.

Don Lin's House of Light was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. The award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
