A Tiny Office Space Designed to Impress

This unique office space, designed by Prashant Chauhan, is a perfect example of how tiny spaces can be transformed to meet specific requirements while leaving a lasting impression. The layout of the office follows the concept of parallel lines, with workstations, lighting layout, and brass inlay lines on the floor all aligned to the two walls. The design draws inspiration from the almond tree outside the window, creating an airy and open space filled with natural daylight.

The office features white terrazzo flooring with inserts of brass leaves, maintaining a visual connection to the plants and trees seen through the window. The custom-made leaves inserted into the floor are inspired by the plants found around the site, creating a sense of continuity between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The terrazzo flooring, with a thickness of around 50mm, was carefully executed after the brass inlay was placed into the raw concrete floor. The microtopping layer, a 3mm thick coating, was applied as the final touch.

One of the design challenges was to scrape off the plaster from the concrete columns to reveal their raw form, which was then polished to bring out a marble-like shine. The attention to detail and the use of brass inlay and custom leaf inserts on the floor add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the space.

This project, which started in July 2018 and was completed in October 2018, showcases the meticulous research and thought that went into every aspect of the design. The terrazzo flooring was studied in depth, and the floor ending detail was inspired by the Art Deco period, adding a touch of old-world charm to the space.

The office's simple and airy design, filled with natural daylight and scattered leaves on the floor, creates a vibrant and spacious atmosphere. The indoor plants further enhance the visual appeal and bring life to the workspace.

Prashant Chauhan, along with Anu Chauhan and the design team, including Nirali Sheth, successfully created a workspace that not only meets the functional requirements of a design and build company but also leaves a lasting impression on anyone who enters. The design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2019, showcasing its outstanding creativity and resourcefulness.
