David Dos Santos Unveils a Lifestyle Cat Litter Box, Merging Function with Aesthetics

The inspiration behind Gizelle stems from the current transition in the pet market towards lifestyle products and soft textures. The designer noticed a gap in the market for a cat litter box that could blend into the aesthetics of a home, rather than being an eyesore. Gizelle is not just a cat litter box, but a statement piece that adds to the beauty and comfort of a home.

What sets Gizelle apart is its design and functionality. Unlike traditional pet products that are bulky and not optimal for shipping, Gizelle is designed for internet/flat shipping. It folds up to a third of its volume for shipping, reducing its carbon footprint. Moreover, its modular setup allows for various styling and finishing options, offering customization to match individual styles and preferences.

Gizelle is not just about looks; it is designed with the health and comfort of the cat in mind. The box consists of two parts: a lightweight, easy-to-remove top part for cleaning, and a sturdy bottom part. It features large carbon filters integrated into the side panels, providing a constant airflow through the litter box, ensuring a healthier environment for the cat. The soft felt covers, designed to withstand scratching, can be easily replaced, offering a variety of styles to match different interiors.

The project started in June 2018 in Antwerp and was completed in February 2019. The challenges faced during the design process included creating an attractive, soft-looking cat litter box with multiple styling options that could fit in a flat box. Another challenge was to make the box easy to clean while providing privacy for the cat. The result is a product that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and easy to use.

Gizelle has received recognition for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Pet Care, Toys, Supplies and Products for Animals Design Award in 2019. This award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
