Koron: A Symphony of Design and Culture

Reza Salianeh and Hamid Packseresht's Award-Winning Fusion of Persian Tradition and Modern Furniture Design

Discover the Koron, a unique piece of furniture that harmoniously blends the rich cultural heritage of Iran with contemporary design. Inspired by the traditional Iranian instrument, Taar, this innovative sofa design has been recognized with a prestigious Golden A' Design Award.

Everyday life is teeming with designs and forms that pass unnoticed by most. However, for an industrial designer, these overlooked details can serve as a rich source of inspiration. This is particularly true for designers Reza Salianeh and Hamid Packseresht, who have drawn from their Iranian heritage to create the Koron, a unique sofa design inspired by the traditional Iranian instrument, Taar.

The Koron stands out from other furniture designs due to its unique blend of cultural heritage and modern design principles. The designers conducted extensive research on approximately 90 percent of Iranian instruments, analyzing their forms and drawing inspiration for their furniture design. The result is a piece that bridges the gap between the nostalgic forms of traditional Iranian instruments and the modern and postmodern approaches to furniture design.

The construction of the Koron is as unique as its design. The organic form of the body is achieved through a foam injection method into a metal casing. The skeleton is made with metal profiles, and to fill the skeleton, several formwork molds of the body are molded and then filled with foam. The final coating is then applied, and the whole form can be covered with wood. The upholstery can be made of leather or fabric, adding a touch of luxury to the design.

The Koron is not only a piece of furniture but also a statement of style and culture. It is a perfect fit for premium lobbies, office waiting rooms, and homes designed with a Persian design background. The sofa is a testament to the designers' ability to merge Persian culture and design in a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing manner.

The project, which started in September 2017 and finished in February 2018 in Tehran, Iran, faced the challenge of designing a premium sofa inspired by an old Persian music instrument, TAAR. However, the designers overcame this challenge and created a piece that is both functional and a tribute to their cultural heritage. The Koron was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in 2019, a testament to the designers' creativity and skill.

In conclusion, the Koron is a perfect example of how design can serve as a bridge between the past and the present, tradition and innovation. It is a piece that not only serves a functional purpose but also tells a story of a rich cultural heritage and the creativity of its designers.
