Bubbles: A Light-Hearted Interpretation of Blowing Bubbles

A Captivating Cocktail Table by D-S Lab

Bubbles is not your ordinary cocktail table. It is a light-hearted interpretation of blowing bubbles, with each individual bubble represented by the push and pull of the table surface. The result is a captivating arrangement of five bubble groupings that seem to come alive. The suspended tension of the frame adds a dynamic element, creating the illusion of movement and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.

The production of Bubbles involved a collaboration with skilled craftspeople. ACP, a CNC shop, meticulously crafted the walnut surfaces, bringing the bubble top to life. 206 Forge, a blacksmith studio, contributed their expertise in measuring and forging the base, adding a touch of artistry to the design. Each team member brought their passion and skill to the project, resulting in a truly exceptional piece of furniture.

Measuring at 1066mm in width, 710mm in depth, and 400mm in height, Bubbles is designed to be a low-slung table with built-in bowls and plates. Its unique form and functionality make it a versatile addition to any living space or lounge area.

The Bubbles cocktail table project began in November 2018 in Seattle and was completed in March 2019, also in Seattle. Throughout the design process, the team faced the challenge of capturing the organic arrangement and movement of bubbles in a permanent surface. The frame was carefully designed to mimic the stretching and pulling of bubbles, adding a sense of motion to the structure.

Bubbles is more than just a piece of furniture; it is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of the D-S Lab design team. By bringing attention to an everyday object often overlooked, they have transformed it into a visually stunning and functional work of art.

The Bubbles cocktail table by D-S Lab has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
