YRH_CT: The Coffee Table that Puts You on the Map

An Abstract Repurposing of the Location Icon

The YRH_CT, or "You are here: coffee table," takes inspiration from the familiar location icon found in smartphone apps. Day's unique design transforms this two-dimensional symbol into a three-dimensional piece of furniture, adding a touch of whimsy to any living space.

What sets the YRH_CT apart is its recognizable shape and the addition of a bowl-like feature. The table's graphic quality not only adds visual interest but also serves as a physical locator. With this table in your home, you can humorously proclaim, "you are here." The bowl shape also provides an additional useful surface for placing items.

The YRH_CT's design includes off-set legs on the base to ensure stability, even with its squared-off corner. This attention to detail not only enhances the table's functionality but also adds a unique visual element.

Creating the YRH_CT involves a careful production process. The top slab is meticulously crafted, ensuring the proper thickness required for the design. This precision is achieved through the use of CNC machines, which route the slab to perfection.

With dimensions of 812mm in diameter and a height of 380mm, the YRH_CT is a practical and fun addition to any living room or lounge area. Its contemporary design and unique shape make it a standout piece of furniture.

The YRH_CT project began in February 2016 and was completed in May of the same year, all within the creative hub of Seattle. Day's innovative approach to repurposing a ubiquitous icon challenges our perception of everyday objects and adds a touch of playfulness to our living spaces.

Jeffrey Day's YRH_CT has been recognized for its excellence in design, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in 2017.
