Banlan Hairdressing: An Artistic Revolution in Salon Design

Wenhui Ruan's Award-Winning Design Transforms Traditional Salon Spaces

Wenhui Ruan's Banlan Hairdressing, an innovative salon design, breaks traditional conventions and introduces an artistic vitality to the space. Inspired by the deep blue hue of International Klein Blue, the design integrates mystery, technology, and specialty, creating a unique and engaging environment.

Located in the bustling Taihe Plaza, Banlan Hairdressing stands out with its rough and pure concrete façade, devoid of excessive decorations. The design creates a sense of tension in the space, further accentuated by a touch of blue that is clear, open, and infinitely extended to nothingness. This combination of elements creates a sense of distance and independence, distinguishing it from traditional salons.

The design draws its inspiration from International Klein Blue (IKB), a deep blue hue first mixed by the French artist Yves Klein. The use of IKB in the salon gives it a unique visual impact, setting it apart from other salons. The blue color, under the black box, appears more vivid, creating a mysterious and technologically advanced atmosphere that invites exploration.

The salon's interior is thoughtfully planned, with tables and chairs in the waiting area randomly placed, varying in size and color, reminiscent of Tetris. This adds an element of fun to the space. The designers have skillfully blended various materials such as metal, leather, and paint to integrate roughness with delicacy, strength with femininity, and freedom with loneliness. The display of different themes on the screen further enhances the modern, technological atmosphere.

The salon's layout is designed to ensure a working environment without shadow, with indoor lighting set according to the orientation. This simulated natural light ensures the true hair color, providing a complete and balanced solution for customers and hairdressers. The mirror and steel plate stand from the ground, dividing the space into several continuous modules, while avoiding human visual errors caused by the reflection of mirrors.

Wenhui Ruan's Banlan Hairdressing is not just a hairdressing salon, but an art space that spreads aesthetics. The design, which was completed in May 2019 in Fuzhou, China, was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
