Golden A' Design Award Winner Transforms Bangkok Suburb with Unique Geometric Dwelling

The Twisted House, a private residence, draws its inspiration from the winding and swing movements of the big rain trees surrounding the property. The design team, led by Kiattisak Veteewootacharn, Archanart Kespayak, Rattawut Chansritrakul, Kriangsak Srikomonsilp, Pitipong Amonviratanaskul, and Krit Chaingamsri, took on the mission to preserve the unique existing condition of the site without much disturbance. The result is a centralized twisted massing composition that creates an unexpected experience for its inhabitants.

The house's unique properties lie in its geometric design and the integration of three different functions: a main house, a glass pavilion, and an exercise complex. The second floor, which houses the public spaces such as the family living area, dining, and pantry spaces, is perpendicularly "twisted" in a clockwise movement to avoid disturbing the existing big trees in front of the house.

One of the significant design challenges was the creation of a round shape that serves as the main circulation core, a sculpture-like spiral staircase. At the same center point, the massing arrangement above expresses the techniques of overlapping composition and unparalleled stacking effect. This innovative design approach ensured that the rest of the big tree grouping could survive without being bothered by the construction.

The Twisted House is not just a design marvel but also a testament to the design team's commitment to preserving nature. The project's success is evident in its recognition as a Golden A' Design Award winner in 2020. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, venerated products, and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology.
