Topfung Group: A Zen-inspired Design for the Headquarters

Combining Traditional Culture and Modern Functionality

The clients of this project have in-depth research on Chinese traditional culture. Combining the research hobbies of clients, the geographical location of the project, the functional requirements and other factors, the Sizhe team puts forward the concept of “Zen” meaning the East and extend the design theme of “Confucian Merchants Zen Heart”: "Confucian Merchants" is a businessman with high cultural accomplishment and personal moral cultivation; "Zen Heart" is a quiet and calm state of mind. The source of inspiration comes from three elements of "cloud, water and lotus"—the sea of people is like "cloud", the rivers and lakes are like "water", and the Zen Heart is like "lotus".

The Topfung Group headquarters, designed by Tianxiang Luo and the Sizhe team, is a remarkable example of blending traditional Chinese culture with modern functionality. Spanning a total area of 2019 square meters, the office area covers 1337 square meters, the club area occupies 173 square meters, and the outdoor garden area spans 509 square meters.

The Sizhe team faced the challenge of redesigning the original structure to increase the effective office area and enhance the outdoor open-air space with a more vibrant landscape. They performed civil construction expansion, structural reinforcement, and waterproof structure treatments in a short period of time, ensuring the project's success.

The design of the headquarters space incorporates large amounts of stone and solid wood to create an ancient and elegant Chinese atmosphere. Ascott ash, Perth high ash, and cloud ash stones are used in the vestibule, dining room, meeting room, and other areas. The cabinets, door covers, and style screens are crafted from different wood finishes, such as teak and rosewood, adding warmth and sophistication to the space.

The dining room and living room feature walls sealed with champagne gold brushed stainless steel and bronze brushed stainless steel, creating a luxurious ambiance. The space is adorned with various ceramic art, tea sets, paintings, and ornaments, all arranged in harmony with the "cloud, water, and lotus" elements, resulting in a beautiful Chinese-inspired environment.

The project, which started in November 2017 in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province, was completed in December 2018. Throughout the process, the Sizhe team overcame various challenges, including the comprehensive reformation of the office space, meeting area, and landscape area. They diligently followed the project schedule while adjusting to site conditions and requirements.

This exceptional design was recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2020. The award acknowledges the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The Topfung Group headquarters stands as a testament to the successful integration of traditional culture and modern functionality, providing a serene and inspiring environment for its occupants.
