Simple and Serene: A Grand Interior Design Infused with Art

An Elegant Residence Showcasing Contemporary Taiwanese Artwork

In order to infuse living spaces with art, designer Yu Fen Lee has created a grand interior that seamlessly integrates a large collection of contemporary Taiwanese artwork. The design not only showcases the beauty of the artwork but also enhances the overall spatiality of the residence, creating a serene and sophisticated living environment.

The client, a gentleman with a passion for living quality and cultural taste, possesses a vast collection of ceramic artwork by contemporary Taiwanese artists. To complement and elevate the collections, the design team meticulously incorporated specially designed display areas throughout the interior. These areas articulate the visual, textural, and artistic semantics of the artwork, adding an elegant soul to the space.

The material selection and craftsmanship in this design reflect the client's dedication to art and aesthetics. The handmade timber flooring evokes a sense of nostalgia and craft tradition, while marble enhances the serenity of the paintwork and the grandeur of the artistic aspirations. The combination of these materials creates a harmonious and visually captivating atmosphere that resonates with the client's living philosophy.

One of the challenges faced by the design team was protecting the artwork collection from harmful rays and heat. To address this, a special Hunter Douglas curtain with a reinforced honeycomb structure was installed. This curtain shields 78% of heat while allowing cold air to enter the interior, providing effective insulation for all seasons. Additionally, smart diffused lighting with adjustable area of control application was implemented to ensure optimal illumination for the artwork.

The design also takes into consideration the client's other interests, such as wine-tasting and gourmet foods. The living circulation is carefully planned to separate the kitchen and dining area from the collection display, while still providing practical storage solutions. In the study, an atlas wall documents the countries the client has traveled to, further enriching the interior with personal touches and reflecting the client's understanding of the world.

Despite the tight timeframe, the design team successfully completed the project in February 2019 in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. The comprehensive planning and effective communication with the construction crew ensured a smooth construction process and the client's satisfaction.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. The award acknowledges the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. It is a testament to the design's ability to create fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.

The Simple and Serene residence is not just a dwelling; it is an interior that reflects the taste, passion, and life values of its inhabitants. By seamlessly integrating art and space, this design enriches the interaction between art and people, creating a truly captivating and soulful living environment.
