Manhattan Gleam: A Luxurious Bachelor Residence

Designing a Space for Ultimate Freedom and Style

Manhattan Gleam is a residence designed by I-Ju Chan and Hsuan-Yi Chen, aimed at capturing the essence of a bachelor's lifestyle. The design removes walls to create an open living space that connects the living room, dining hall, and kitchen. Inspired by the American metropolis style, this design combines modernity with classic coziness.

The uniqueness of Manhattan Gleam lies in its ability to cater to the client's specific lifestyle. As a single male, the client desired a space that exudes the ambiance of uptown Manhattan and embraces the joy and freedom of bachelorhood. The design incorporates elements of metropolis modern style, creating a space that is both dynamic and noble.

The design of Manhattan Gleam focuses on simplicity, brightness, and spaciousness. The use of multi-grind flooring adds rustic charm to the space while maintaining a seamless and easy-to-clean surface. The living room features vintage American leather couches paired with king and queen chairs, creating an elegant and low-profile atmosphere. The bedroom, with its warm retro parquet flooring, provides a calm and inviting ambiance.

Manhattan Gleam is designed to accommodate frequent socializing and entertaining. The front-back terraces are planned with an open layout, seamlessly connecting the dining hall and living room to the outdoor space. The study room has been re-adjusted and made more spacious, providing a private area for work and relaxation. The design of the study room showcases a low-profile, extravagant sense of luxury.

The realization of Manhattan Gleam involved careful attention to detail and the use of advanced technology. German imported floor riser devices were used to cover the original tiles of the front-back terrace, ensuring a seamless restoration. The suspended TV wall in the bedroom maintains visual permeability and adds a sense of modernity. The ceiling design balances the space by avoiding pipeline beams and columns, creating a harmonious and visually appealing environment.

Manhattan Gleam was completed in January 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. The design is a realization of extensive research into the lifestyle of a bachelor, creating a space that serves as a stylish and inviting playground. The integration of various public areas allows for seamless transitions and provides ample space for social gatherings. Privacy is ensured through thoughtful spatial planning.

The design of Manhattan Gleam was not without its challenges. The kitchen bar and dining table were rotated 90 degrees to create a sense of connectivity with the space. The use of timber tables and hanging lamps adds warmth and elegance to the design. The carpentry work was done on-site, retaining the natural texture of the wood and adding intricate details to the city-style design.

With its gray tones and open layout, Manhattan Gleam offers a natural and spacious ambiance. The combination of classic retro couches with modern and elegant materials creates a unique and inviting atmosphere. This design truly captures the essence of a luxurious bachelor residence, providing a vibrant and stylish living space.
