The Art of Simplicity model house, designed by Hsin-Yuan Lee, is a testament to the power of minimalism and natural elements. The flowing-water patterned reception counter, built with stone, greets visitors as they enter, setting the tone for the entire space. In the background, the discussion section is crafted with architectural concrete, adding a touch of modernity to the design.

What sets this model house apart is its dignified and conservative atmosphere. Lee achieves this by incorporating guest-welcoming pine, solid wood, and solitary bird elements, creating a peaceful and tranquil ambience. The use of dark colors as the main tone, combined with elegant and rich spatial colors, further enhances the overall aesthetic.

Lee's design philosophy is deeply rooted in Thoreau's belief in living a simple and purposeful life. By using natural patterns of stone, the designer showcases the exquisite spatial texture and extracts the natural atmosphere of the rainforest. This integration of nature and design principles creates a harmonious and calming environment, allowing residents to connect with the world around them.

The Art of Simplicity model house spans 140 square meters, providing ample space for residents to live comfortably. Located in Taichung, Taiwan, the project was completed on June 25th, 2019. Throughout the design process, Lee drew inspiration not only from Thoreau but also from the philosophy of Lao Zi, a renowned Chinese philosopher. Both thinkers emphasized the importance of living in harmony with nature and finding wisdom in simplicity.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. The award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the Art of Simplicity model house, which seamlessly integrates art, science, design, and technology. By improving the quality of life and fostering a sense of tranquility, this design truly makes the world a better place.
