Shimu: A Testament to Modernity and Art in Interior Design

Jin Wang's Award-Winning Design Marries Refinement and Innovation

Shimu, an exquisite and stylish interior space design project by Jin Wang, redefines modernity and art in design. Located on the shore of Suzhou Jinji Lake, this 470 square meter penthouse offers an extraordinary blend of refinement, modernity, fashion, and art. The design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, is a testament to Wang's innovative approach to interior space design.

The project's unique location, facing south to the North, offers a first-line lake view. The first floor of the high hall features a south-facing panoramic ground window. This design element allows the sun to easily pass through, bringing the sparkling lake and the green planting of the Golden Rooster Lake runway into view. The breath of life fills the entire space, creating a strong sense of the field. The minimalist fireplace design further enhances this sense of connection with nature.

One of Shimu's distinguishing features is its open space design. The living room, dining room, and Western kitchen are interconnected, creating a simple line space. This design approach reflects Wang's philosophy of visual simplification, where less is more. The ground and top material is unified, with only one material used in the space. This approach to design space as a product is a testament to Wang's innovative approach to interior design.

The project, which began in Suzhou in July 2018 and ended in October 2019, presented several challenges. The 25-storey high-rise residential building on the Jinji Lake side required a 6.6 x 2.5 m block of glass to achieve a better view. This was difficult to lift and install and required the permission of the property, crane occupation of the road, and communication between the neighbors.

Despite these challenges, the design team, which included Wenqiu Lu, Qiuye Song, Yaguang Feng, and Lingtao Liu, successfully delivered a new concept of contemporary habitat. The design uses the design language of modern symbols to return to the essence of architecture and the natural properties of raw materials, integrating nature and architecture. This approach reflects the team's belief that design is not only about creation but also about finding a way to communicate with the world and create moved.

Shimu's recognition as a Silver A' Design Award winner is a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill. These designs introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder, and Shimu is no exception. Its blend of refinement, modernity, fashion, and art makes it a standout in the field of interior space design.
