Time Newborn: A Hotel Design by Peilei Huang

Reviving Old Buildings with Bold Colors and Art Decorations

In this hotel project, Peilei Huang and the design team at UOWAIN have transformed an old building into a vibrant and modern hotel. By using bold colors and art decorations, they have breathed new life into the space, creating a lively atmosphere that captivates guests.

The design team drew inspiration from the concept of time and memory. They approached the project with dialectical thinking, observing space and objects from beginning to end. Through innovative design language, they aimed to mine the time memory and create a comfortable and pure space experience. By integrating materials, shapes, colors, and other details, they brought new thinking and integration to the renewal and change of urban functions.

One of the unique properties of the project is its location in an old building with a load-bearing wall structure. The designers ingeniously utilized the limitations of the existing wall frame to layout the functions of the hotel. This not only met the division of dynamic lines and spatial functions but also created a progressive sense of space layer by layer. The spatial functions of the hotel are independent yet connected, offering guests a unique and interconnected experience.

The realization of the design involved the use of warm beige bricks in the exhibition area of the foyer. These bricks evoke a sense of time and memory, complemented by art sculptures, metal frame door openings, and art wall lamps. The limitations of the bearing wall were transformed into defining characteristics of the space, radiating a strong artistic atmosphere. The memory of time merges and regenerates within the space, creating a captivating environment for guests.

The hotel covers a total area of 450 square meters. The central core area features the reception position of the front desk, connected to the rest space of the left and right sofas through two door openings in the load-bearing walls. The designers skillfully opened these doors to dissolve the spatial relation of the load-bearing wall barrier, creating a seamless flow throughout the hotel.

The walls and pillars of the reception area are adorned with black metal lines, giving the space a strong outline. Artistic hanging decorations and warm color lighting further enhance the ambiance, layering light into the interior and presenting a delicate space for guests to enjoy.

The project, which started in January 2019 and finished in January 2019, was located in Nanjing. The design team undertook extensive research to understand the changing business forms along the road where the hotel is situated. With bolder colors and artistic decorations, they aimed to breathe new life into the old buildings, creating a lively and inviting atmosphere.

Overcoming various challenges, such as insufficient illumination, the design team cleverly incorporated a skylight to make the space more transparent. Abstract forest wallpaper patterns on the walls create a calming atmosphere, allowing guests to relax and unwind. The hotel offers a public space that combines visual focus, density, flexibility, freedom, comfort, and temperature.

Peilei Huang's design for the Time Newborn hotel has received recognition and acclaim. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.

With its bold colors, art decorations, and innovative design approach, the Time Newborn hotel by Peilei Huang offers guests a unique and captivating experience. By reviving an old building and transforming it into a modern and vibrant space, the design team has created a hotel that truly stands out.
