Essence of Humanity: A Fusion of Retro and Modern Office Space

Designers Tsung Yen Feng and Jou An Chen Create a Unique Workspace

In the heart of a bustling city, an old storefront has been transformed into a unique design studio that perfectly blends vintage and modern aesthetics. The Essence of Humanity project, designed by Tsung Yen Feng and Jou An Chen, is a testament to the power of innovative design and the beauty of architectural transformation.

The Essence of Humanity project was inspired by the retro mottled indoor wall of the original storefront. The designers decided to preserve this wall, using it as a focal point to build a modern, gallery-like studio around. The color palette of black, gray, and brown was chosen to complement the vintage feel of the wall, creating a perfect balance between old and new.

One of the unique features of this project is the use of different materials to create a tranquil and reserved painting from which warmth of humanity pours out. The designers used terrazzo-like tile flooring, soft wooden textures, and clean-cut steel hardware to create a unique and inviting space. The second floor of the office space features large plates of black iron used as cabinet doors, paired with chalkboard paint and dark laminate flooring.

The designers also paid close attention to the technical specifications of the project. They wanted to create a sense of spaciousness in the 82 square meter area of the second floor, so they used large windows and fluted glass to bring in natural light. The use of lines and layers in the design adds depth and visual interest to the space.

The Essence of Humanity project was not without its challenges. The designers wanted to preserve as much of the original structure as possible, which meant coming up with creative solutions to incorporate the old with the new. They used geometric building frames to create a minimalist exterior, and large French windows to connect the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The project was completed in July 2016, after three months of construction. The result is a beautiful, functional office space that reflects the designers' passion for creating art. The Essence of Humanity project was awarded Bronze in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, a testament to the designers' creativity and ingenuity.

In conclusion, the Essence of Humanity project is a shining example of how innovative design can transform an old space into something new and exciting. It's a testament to the power of creativity and the beauty of architectural transformation. The designers' ability to blend vintage and modern aesthetics has resulted in a unique workspace that is both functional and beautiful.
