Dancer: Revolutionizing Public Transport with the World's Lightest Electric Bus

Combining Innovation, Sustainability, and Design in Urban Mobility

Introducing Dancer, a groundbreaking city transport solution that redefines the concept of public transportation. This innovative design, which has won the prestigious Golden A' Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design Award in 2020, is not just an electric bus, but a comprehensive eco-friendly transport system that includes full maintenance and its own green energy supply.

Dancer's uniqueness lies in its design and construction. Inspired by the fluidity of dance and the technical prowess of racing yachts, Dancer is engineered from scratch, making it the lightest full-size bus in the world. The bus's curved sidewalls, made from recycled PET bottles, provide extra strength, while its rounded body enhances manoeuvrability. The rear screen not only improves traffic visibility for other drivers but can also be used for advertising purposes.

The bus's body structure is made of five large modules, reminiscent of wind power turbines or sports yachts construction concepts. This modular structure simplifies assembly compared to other buses on the market. The composite structure, made of glass fibre, vinyl ester resin, and recycled PET foam, ensures that Dancer's body is ultra-light, strong, and ready for re-recycling.

But Dancer is not just about innovative design and sustainable materials. It also boasts impressive technical specifications. With a top speed of 70 km/h and an average range of 90 - 110 km depending on conditions, Dancer can be fully charged for a 100 km range in just six minutes. It can accommodate 100 passengers plus the driver and comes equipped with comforts such as HVAC, USB ports for passengers, an automatic ramp, a skylight, rear screen safety feature, and 360-degree view cameras.

Dancer's design was realized through a collaboration with Klaipeda University, resulting in a new bus body construction technology. The modular structure concept and the newly developed composite material ensure lightness and are ready for re-recycling. These concepts, although new to the bus industry, are widely used in wind turbine and sporting yachts engineering.

The project, which started in 2012 in Lithuania's Klaipeda city, faced several challenges. The main challenge was to rethink the bus construction, making it ultra-light, attractive for passengers, and environmentally friendly. But the result is a bus that needs less energy and batteries than any competitor, offering a modern means of public transport that is not only efficient and sustainable but also comfortable and user-friendly.

In conclusion, Dancer is a testament to the power of design, innovation, and sustainability in transforming public transportation. It is not just a bus, but a comprehensive transport solution that is set to revolutionize urban mobility. With its unique design, impressive technical specifications, and commitment to sustainability, Dancer is indeed a dance of innovation and design, a dance towards a greener and more sustainable future.
