Smart Ecology: A Vision of a High-Tech Urban Oasis

Yun Du's Innovative Design for a Green, Intelligent Industrial Park

Yun Du's Smart Ecology project, an award-winning industrial park design, offers a unique blend of technology, ecology, and urban planning. This innovative concept aims to create a harmonious balance between openness and privacy, fostering a vibrant, interactive space that integrates industry, education, and research.

The Smart Ecology project, located in Nanning's Wuxiang New District, is an ambitious endeavor that seeks to transform the area into a high-tech city. The project, which started in October 2016 and is expected to be completed by 2020, is an investment of approximately 640 billion dollars. The design emphasizes the links among functional zones, creating an open, invigorated space for communication. The goal is to form an intelligent, green, and ecological park that maximizes the advantages of the Tus Park, integrating resources into the Tsinghua Industry for the common development of industry, education, and research.

One of the unique features of the Smart Ecology project is its "yard and aisle" concept. This design approach ensures the openness of the Tus Park while maintaining the independence and privacy of each functional zone with enclosed courtyards. The central axis of the landscape is designed to connect individual units through sky corridors, vertically enriching the landscape and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the park.

The project also boasts of a passive building energy environment system, an innovative approach to energy conservation and environmental protection. This system is implemented in the design of the service center, further underscoring the project's commitment to sustainable development. The project area spans 671,592 sqm and includes high-rises, western villas, loft apartments, and independent office buildings. The residential group, "Tus Ignites", consists of 21 commercial and residential buildings, including western villas and residential high-rises.

Despite the challenges posed by the project's location in a new development zone with incomplete supporting facilities, the design team, led by Yun Du and including Xiaomeng Lin, Deliang Liu, Xiaoxia Yu, and Yinghong Tan, successfully proposed a model of industry-city integration. The team's innovative solutions aim to attract and retain talent, radiate benefits, and ultimately create China's top eco-tech city.

Yun Du's Smart Ecology project is a testament to the power of innovative design in shaping the future of urban landscapes. The project's unique blend of technology, ecology, and urban planning has earned it the prestigious Silver A' City Planning and Urban Design Award in 2020. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
