Legendary BeastIllustration Inspired by Chinese Mythology
The legendary beast is a collection of traditional style illustrations created by Daybreak Li. Drawing inspiration from Chinese words and sentences, the design showcases the twining of two kinds of animals' eyes to express the opposition and coexistence of different contradictions. Chinese dragon and tiger represent the strong male side, while Phoenix and crane represent the feminine female side. With the addition of flowers and rocks, the illustrations become even more decorative.
This unique design stands out with its strong color contrast and picture tension, attracting the public's aesthetic interest with its interesting detail effect. The illustrations are created using Photoshop and are produced using high-level printing and manufacturing technologies to showcase the beautiful and exquisite details.
The finished products are handmade paper, measuring 31cm in height and 45cm in width. The project was developed between 2018 and 2019 in Beijing and Guangzhou, China, starting in July 2018 and concluding in October 2019. The design innovates on the basis of Chinese traditional folding fans, combining them with pictures created using modern techniques to create a retro yet contemporary feel.
In recognition of its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, the legendary beast design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This award is given to creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. The design provides fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
