Revolutionizing Brand Identity: Tearalab Logo Design

Xiang Yao's Innovative Approach to Corporate Identity

Delving into the unique design process behind the Tearalab Logo, this article explores how designer Xiang Yao transformed the traditional concept of a beverage logo into a symbol of innovation and creativity.

The Tearalab Logo, a product of Xiang Yao's creative genius, is a testament to the power of design in shaping brand identity. This corporate identity design was inspired by the experimental nature of a laboratory, reflecting the belief that delicious food and beverages can be prepared with the precision and creativity of a scientific experiment.

What sets the Tearalab Logo apart is its unique representation of a Korean style bubble tea food restaurant. Tearalab is a novel venture from the creators of KaKa All You Can Eat and is the first restaurant in Toronto to serve fusion Japanese burgers. The logo design breaks away from the conventional milk tea cup elements and adopts a simple industrial style, combining the elements of a straw and an experimental cup.

The logo was brought to life using a variety of interfaces. It was used in signage, on the restaurant's cups, on coasters, and as an acrylic display in the restaurant. The logo's unique design sparked excitement among customers and attracted attention from bloggers and large media platforms like BlogTO.

The design project, which ran from November 2015 to February 2016, was not without its challenges. The main hurdle was the social aspect of combining laboratory elements with a beverage logo, as it could potentially evoke feelings of unease or concerns about health among customers. However, the design team successfully navigated this challenge, creating a logo that is both innovative and appealing.

The Tearalab Logo design has been recognized for its creativity and innovation, winning the Silver A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, further cementing the Tearalab Logo's place in the realm of exceptional design.
