Human beings are closely connected with the ocean. Liu Xiaorong and Huo Kai, the talented designers behind the "Human and Sea" digital art illustration, have created a series of captivating artworks that depict the harmonious symbiotic relationship between humans and the ocean. This relationship is dialectical, highlighting the consequences of both destruction and care.
The surreal art style of the digital illustrations serves as a powerful medium to convey the message that human beings and the ocean are a community of destiny. The artworks showcase the affinity between female characters and marine life, surrounded by fish, coral, seaweed, and unfortunately, the garbage left in the ocean by human beings.
Through their artwork, Liu Xiaorong and Huo Kai aim to communicate three key points to the audience. Firstly, they emphasize the harmony between human beings and the ocean, highlighting the importance of preserving this delicate balance. Secondly, they shed light on the destruction and pollution caused by human activities, urging individuals to reflect on their actions and take responsibility for the consequences. Lastly, they emphasize the consequences that human beings will inevitably face if they continue to neglect the well-being of the ocean.
The digital art illustrations not only serve as a means of artistic expression but also as a powerful tool to raise awareness and provoke thought. By presenting the content in a visually striking and thought-provoking manner, the artists aim to deeply root the artistic concept in the minds of the viewers.
The process of creating these illustrations involves the use of computer drawing technology, specifically the "Sai" software. The artists combine this software with a digital board for image drawing and post-art processing, resulting in a systematic and stylized approach to their art. The final illustrations are available in two sizes, 127x127 cm and 63.5x63.5 cm, suitable for both print and online media.
The "Human and Sea" project began in March 2019 and was completed in September 2019 in Shenyang. Throughout the duration of the project, Liu Xiaorong and Huo Kai conducted extensive research on the impact of human activities on the ocean. They discovered that marine organisms and resources have suffered significant damage and pollution due to human actions, potentially leading to long-term destruction. The digital art illustrations serve as a reflection of this content, combining montage techniques to praise the harmony between humans and the ocean while criticizing destructive behaviors.
The creation of these digital art illustrations presented several challenges for the designers. The artists had to skillfully balance the artistic effects and painting forms in their montages, striving to achieve the ultimate level of artistry and profundity. Through their dedication and creative ingenuity, Liu Xiaorong and Huo Kai successfully overcame these challenges, resulting in a visually stunning and thought-provoking series of illustrations.
The "Human and Sea" digital art illustrations by Liu Xiaorong and Huo Kai have received recognition for their outstanding creativity and ingenuity. In 2020, they were awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
With their unique and captivating artwork, Liu Xiaorong and Huo Kai have successfully captured the essence of the symbiotic relationship between humans and the ocean. Their digital art illustrations serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting our oceans for a sustainable future.
