Greenland Huangpu Center Office: A New Paradigm in Workspace Design

Junlong Yuan's Innovative Design Revolutionizes Working Spaces

Junlong Yuan's Greenland Huangpu Center Office in Shanghai redefines the concept of a working space. This innovative design, awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, is a testament to the transformative power of design and technology in creating a more efficient, creative, and environmentally-friendly workspace.

Junlong Yuan's design is inspired by the concept of OFFICE+, which aligns with a people-oriented, smart, and innovative working concept. The aim was to create a workspace that could inspire workers, presenting a space that is not only interesting and efficient but also environmentally conscious. The design was guided by three key points: space serving people, functions serving people, and the creation of a new working ecological system that refines working forms and offers personalized solutions.

The Greenland Huangpu Center Office stands out for its unique properties. The design incorporates the dynamic view of the Huangpu River, increasing the emotional connection between the space and its occupants and stimulating creativity. Innovative technologies are employed to create a more efficient workspace and enhance communication. The result is a new working ecological system that refines working forms and offers personal solutions.

Junlong Yuan's design realization technology is equally impressive. Graphical design methods were used to create a beautiful and elegant space. New materials were specifically tailored for the project. Wood panels were processed into thinner ones and coated with translucent acrylic at the back. Lighting elements were then arranged inside the panel, forming large areas of walls in the corridor. The result is a series of lighting that is partly hidden and partly visible, reminiscent of the Shanghai skyline.

The project, which started in February 2017 and was completed in November 2019, covers a construction area of 1,980 square meters with a usable interior area of 1,580 square meters. The design team included Junlong Yuan as the chief designer, along with Juan Wang, Zhaohui Huang, Yong Ling, Pan Tang, and Meiqin Du from G-Art Architecture and Interior Design.

The biggest challenge faced by the designers was expressing the theme of OFFICE+. They overcame this by using a low-cost parametric design idea to create an immersive experience and artistic ambiance. Inspired by the curve of the Huangpu River, a three-dimensional space was created by connecting two-dimensional lines. This innovative approach to workspace design is a testament to the transformative power of design and technology in creating more efficient, creative, and environmentally-friendly workspaces.
