Visual Identity System

The inspiration for the visual identity system of WIDC came from the concept of design as an innovative engine. The logo features the letter "I" extended into a light cone, symbolizing the various connotations of industrial design, including "industrial," "integration," "international," and "innovation." The light cones of different colors represent the key elements of the design industry, such as designers, design institutions, manufacturing enterprises, and universities.

What sets the WIDC visual identity system apart is its far-reaching influence and its role as a precedent for the industry. The conference has become a landmark event for the international exchange of industrial design, attracting over 100,000 visitors who are treated to a visual feast of the latest design concepts and products during the three-day Industrial Design World Expo.

The realization of the visual identity system is based on the idea that design is a universal language that embodies openness, inclusiveness, and the charm of the unknown. By fully harnessing the power of design, the conference aims to increase industrial value, cultivate industrial vitality, spur industrial upgrading, and shape the future industrial structure. The result is a vibrant and dynamic industry that keeps bursting and booming.

The WIDC visual identity system was created by Xin Tong and his team, which includes Xin Li as the chief designer, Xin Li as the designer director, and Yuanchuan Chen, Shu Chen as the creative directors. Other team members include Lu Qiao, Zilin Liu, and Xiaoming Liu. Together, they accurately interpreted the concept of the conference and created a visual feast with a strong impact.

The project started in April 2019 and was completed in August 2019 in Yantai, where the conference was also exhibited in October 2019. The underlying research for the design was driven by the recognition of design as an important national innovation strategy and a driving force for the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry. The theme of WIDC 2019 was "Design Sparks Innovation Engine," emphasizing the role of design in promoting social and economic development.

The WIDC visual identity system faced the challenge of creating a communication system that was easy to identify, disseminate, and accurately convey the conference theme. The team overcame this challenge by using the light cone as a symbol, representing the letter "I" and the key elements of the design industry. The different colors of the light cones represent the diversity and vibrancy of the industry.

WIDC 2019 was a resounding success, attracting representatives from more than 30 countries and regions around the world. The conference facilitated design exchanges and cooperation, resulting in major innovation projects, such as international design industry cooperation projects, the introduction of national high-end talent projects, and the establishment of the China Unified Innovation University of Industrial Design and the Global Design Industry Organization.

The WIDC visual identity system has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2020. This award recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
