Meduse: A Sculpture Lamp by Ana Maria Reque

A Unique Fusion of Cultures and Materials

Meduse stands out from other lamps with its fusion of two cultures, Peru and Italy. Ana Maria Reque has skillfully integrated the artistic traditions of these two countries, resulting in a new syncretic language. The lamp is made using only two materials: ceramic from Peru and Murano glass from Italy. The harmonization of these materials is enhanced by the reflections of multicolored LED lighting, creating a mesmerizing visual effect.

The creation of Meduse involves a meticulous process. After modeling the lamp with refractory clay, Ana Maria Reque embarks on a deconstruction process of the traditional shape. The lamp undergoes a 20-day drying process before the first firing at 950 degrees Celsius. The glazing process follows, and then the lamp is placed in a Raku oven at 930 degrees Celsius. The object is removed while still white-hot from the oven, resulting in the distinctive craquelure decorative effect and metallic and iridescent reflections.

Meduse is not only a visually stunning piece but also a functional one. It can be used as both an indoor and outdoor lamp, creating enchanting atmospheres with its play of light and shadow on the wall. The lamp comes with a remote control that allows users to change the colors and interact with the lighting.
